Where does Filmot's search data come from?

Filmot independently indexes publicly accessible YouTube video and channel information, including metadata and available subtitles, captions and transcripts. It does not use the official YouTube Data API to collect this information.

Coverage depends on what is accessible when Filmot collects the information; the index is not a live copy of YouTube.

How many videos has Filmot indexed?

The Filmot home page displays approximate totals for its subtitle and metadata indexes. These totals differ because metadata search includes many videos without searchable captions, while subtitle search covers videos with indexed subtitle text.

Filmot stores text metadata and available captions or transcripts, not video or audio files. Coverage is incomplete: subtitle indexing is selective, while metadata search has no minimum view count and includes records Filmot discovers.

How does Filmot's full-text search work, and does it use AI or semantic search?

Filmot independently collects public YouTube video metadata and available subtitles, captions or transcripts, builds a full-text index from that information and searches the stored index.

Subtitle and metadata searches are keyword-based; Filmot does not offer AI-based semantic or contextual search. To refine matches, use spaces to require all terms, | for alternatives, -word to exclude a term, parentheses for groups and double quotes for an exact phrase. Proximity searches with ~N, NEAR/N or NOTNEAR/N can match nearby words, and * inside a quoted phrase stands for one word.

Combine those expressions with filters such as channel, language, upload date or video duration. The ? icon beside the search box opens the Search Syntax Cheat Sheet with examples. Details of Filmot's underlying software and infrastructure are not published.

Does Filmot keep a log of where it discovered a particular video or channel from?
